Yu Yangyi, in addition to being China’s champion, has achieved numerous podiums in tournaments such as: 2004 World Youth Chess Championship (first), Aeroflot Open 2007 (second), Asian Chess Championship 2009 (second), World Junior Chess Championship 2013 (first), Qatar Masters Open 2014 (first), Capablanca Memorial 2015 (first), Qatar Masters Open 2015 (second), Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz 2019 (2019), etc. They are not only podiums, but also medals and qualifiers. The first medal was gold in the Chinese team in the 41st Chess Olympiads and the second, also gold, was in the same Olympiads as the best third board. In terms of qualifiers, it was for its first World Cup in 2009 and six years later, it was in 2015. Yu obtained the first Grandmaster norm in May 2009 and the second also in the same month, yes, you read that right, Yu obtained in the same month, two GM norms competing in only two tournaments.
