Alex Villa, 13 years old, obtains the international master standard.

The young Spanish promise of chess, Alex Villa, has just concluded his participation in summer tournaments, with great success: Champion of Spain U14 Teams, 5th of Spain in the U14 Individual, Sub-Champion of Spain U14 Fast Pace, Absolute Champion in the three Active (one-day tournaments) he participated.

In this last week Alex surprised in the V Magistral of Mutxamel (Alicante): He got the Fide Master (FM) title and his first International Master norm at his 13 years and 1 month old, surpassing the 2,400 points ELO rating FIDE.

Alex finished the tournament with 6.5 points out of a possible 9, which gave him the FM title and the International Master Standard.

It remains to be confirmed by the Spanish Chess Federation, but it may be that Alex has become the earliest player to achieve this feat, surpassing the child talents that our chess has had: Paco Vallejo, Lance Henderson and even the great Arturo Pomar.

Alex in the FIDE lists will be the best Spanish U14 player and 4th in the World of his age (up to 13 years) and would enter with a direct invitation to play the U14 World Age Group Championship, to be held in Italy, in November.
