Google announced as title sponsor of the World Chess Championship 2024

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) and the Singapore Chess Federation (SCF) are proud to announce that Google will be the title sponsor of the FIDE World Chess Championship 2024.
This event will be held at Resorts World Sentosa from November 23 to December 15, 2024.
This historic collaboration represents the first time a global technology leader has sponsored the World Chess Championship, setting a new standard for the reach and influence of the sport. FIDE and SCF are excited to deliver an unforgettable Championship that will leave a mark around the world, far beyond the final checkmate.
Google’ s sponsorship transforms the possibilities of the World Chess Championship, opening the door to a future where technology and chess inspire and challenge each other, creating a dynamic and engaging environment for players and fans alike.
Simon Kahn, Google’s Director of Marketing for the Asia-Pacific region
Google for the Asia-Pacific region, said, “We are excited to sponsor this historic event. Chess represents a profound intersection between human ingenuity and technological potential, and has always been a testing ground for innovation in artificial intelligence. In fact, some of our earliest AI breakthroughs came from mastering chess as a proof of concept. Through Search, YouTube and AI, we are now pleased to enhance the Championship experience for chess fans globally, celebrating the beauty of this game that continues to inspire and challenge us.”
As chess continues to gain popularity around the world, the partnership between FIDE and Google represents a significant step forward in connecting the sport with modern technology. FIDE CEO Emil Sutovsky expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration:“FIDE is excited to partner with Google as it becomes the title sponsor of the World Championship.
This is a milestone for our sport.
This collaboration brings a new dimension to the competition, merging the tradition of chess with the innovation of artificial intelligence.
The partnership aims to raise the visibility of the World Chess Championship, taking the broadcast of the event to a new level and attracting new audiences globally.” Kevin Goh, CEO of SCF, commented, “This year, having Google as our title sponsor for the World Championship final represents a revolutionary moment for chess, both in Singapore and globally.
It is the first time that a world technology leader has supported chess’ most important event.
In recent years, Google has surprised the chess community with its neural network-inspired chess program, AlphaZero, among many other innovative advances.
Chess is all about problem solving, and we are pleased that Google’ s special focus on deep learning resonates so well with this game.”
