One of the lines of work of the organizers of the open is to promote the sporting development of young players. Parallel to the organization of the tournament, we promote initiatives with this objective: last year we signed a collaboration agreement with the Federació d’Escacs Valls d’Andorra; agreement in which we agreed the collaboration of both organizations to promote both the Llobregat Open Chess and the Obert Internacional d’Escacs d’Andorra. We have agreed to invite and exchange players linked to the two tournaments, especially U-20 players, who will be eligible to receive the support that the respective organizations offer to promising young chess players. The good work of GM Oscar de la Riva has favored the initiative and finally the agreement reached.
In the last two editions, one of the programmed activities was a school championship. This year we intend to continue with this initiative; the morning of Sunday December 1 at the headquarters of open, Sant Boi, Can Massallera, we will organize the third edition of this offer for young players, especially those of the region.
With the aim of helping Catalan players to progress in their classification, we have programmed together with the Club d’Escacs Sant BoiThe celebration of four closed tournaments, which will be played every Thursday in October and November starting at five o’clock in the afternoon, at the headquarters of the Sant Boi C.E.at the Casal de Barri de Marianao.
One of the scheduled closed ones will be called “Memorial Mateu Chalmeta“. Continuing the tradition of tournaments organized in previous years by the dean club of chess in Sant Boi. Mateu Chalmeta was an outstanding player; one of the founders of the club in Ateneu Santboià, which he also presided. In his years of competition, he managed to reach the category of preferential, the maximum that in the seventies, recognized the best Catalan players. Mateu Chalmeta, neighbor of Colonia Güell, found chess continuity in his children and grandchildren who stand out as strong Catalan players.
We continue working to complete the offer of activities of EL LLOBREGAT OPEN CHESS 2024.
