Everything is ready in Sant Boi for the starting signal of the best chess open in Spain. The fifth edition of El Llobregat Open Chess starts this Friday, November 29th at 4 p.m. and will offer games that will be broadcasted on line every afternoon until Sunday, December 8th. More than 200 players from 45 countries will participate in the competition. This edition includes as a novelty ten rounds in group A and a minimum of 2,150 ELO points to participate in this group. On Sunday, December 1st at 10.00 a.m. the traditional U-16 championship will also be held.
The Can Massallera exhibition center in Sant Boi will host from 4:00 p.m. this Friday, November 29 and until Sunday, December 8, the fifth edition of the THE LLOBREGAT OPEN CHESSthe best chess open in Spain both in 2022 and 2022. in 2023as certified by the Spanish Chess Federation (FEDA) and the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD). The main novelties of this edition are that ten rounds will be played in group A (one more than in previous years) and that the minimum level to access this group rises up to 2,150 ELO points of the International Chess Federation (FIDE).the tournament has warmed up this Thursday with the celebration in the same enclosure of a round of rapid games.
The V edition of EL LLOBREGAT OPEN CHESS is held for the third consecutive year in Sant Boi and has exceeded 200 registered players, of which 125 hold international titles, from 45 different countries. The three most outstanding players of the competition are the Grand Masters (GM) Karthik (India), Henríquez Villagra (Chile) and Kraemer (Germany), with 2,605, 2,594 and 2,576 ELO points, respectively. In the initial ranking, the first Spaniard registered is Grandmaster Julen Luis Arizmendi (absolute champion of Spain in 2012 and 2,493 ELO points), who is ranked 21st in the tournament ranking.

The largest group of players by nationality is made up of Spanish players (with 23 players registered) followed by those from India, which has become a new world power in this sport, with a total of eleven representatives, although another 62 players from this country opted to participate but were not finally registered so that “there would not be an imbalance between the different nationalities”, explained sources of the tournament organizers. In this fifth edition of EL LLOBREGAT OPEN CHESS participates Javier Habans Aguerrea, recently proclaimed U-16 world champion in Florianopolis (Brazil).
In its fifth edition, EL LLOBREGAT OPEN CHESS has set itself the goal of improving its online and live broadcasting of the games, which will allow the simultaneous transmission of the games of each and every one of the 120 players registered in group A. For the broadcasting, 60 electronic boards will be used. The images will be provided by 12 cameras and the games will be narrated in six languages selectable by the users of the platform (accessible from https://www.elllobregat.com/openchess/es/). The streamers Renato Quintiliano and Anna-Maja Kazari, who will add their channels to EL LLOBREGAT’s channel, will participate in the broadcasts. The broadcasting team will be led by GM Tomás Sosa, 2023 Iberoamerican rapid champion. In the 2023 edition, 42,669 people from 37 different countries connected to the broadcasting of the tournament, a figure that is expected to be surpassed this year.

The games will take place in the afternoon starting this Friday, November 29th. In addition, on Sunday, December 1 at 10.00 a.m. will be held at the Can Massallera enclosure the traditional U-16 championship included in the open, in collaboration with the charity Drac Artcai(www.dracartcai.com). All proceeds from the inscriptions to this championship will be donated to this entity that helps children hospitalized at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Esplugues.
