Yesterday, December 12, 2024, in Singapore, the last game scheduled to settle the world chess championship was played. The winner was the Indian grandmaster Gukesh, who at the age of 18 becomes the 18th world champion, dethroning the former holder, the Chinese Ding Liren. The overall result was 7.5 to 6.5.

Gukesh has become the youngest world champion in history. Continuing his precocious development: he was also the youngest ever to achieve the title of grandmaster.

In 2019, a Gukesh, already then grandmaster, participated in the first edition of EL LLOBREGAT OPEN CHESS, edition won by his compatriot Narayanan with 7 points out of 9; on that occasion Gukesh added 5.5 out of 9 and was in 19th position in the final ranking. In the photo we can see him flanked by the presidents of the Catalan and Spanish federations, Pepo Viñas on the left of the image, Javier Ochoa, on the right. Five years ago, Gukesh’s progression already predicted that in the not too distant future he would be crowned world champion.
